Nature and Luxury: How to Vacation in California

The state of California offers everything to a fan of the natural world. From Death Valley to wine country to the ocean to the mountains, you can find something wonderful to enjoy. Even if you’re not a fan of roughing it in a tent, you can enjoy a terrific, luxurious experience.

Check Out the Wineries

The lush greenery of a winery and full growth is an endlessly interesting view, so why not stay in a modern yurt? Many of these spaces also offer beautiful sleeping canopies in large, single stay rooms with attached baths.

Many of these sites also offer

  • catering
  • housekeeping
  • a scheduled wine-tasting

Central Heat and AC

If you have always dreamed of being snowed in or staying in a skiing cabin but don’t want to tend a fire, it’s time to book a stay in one of the cabins near Mammoth Mountain. These cabins may offer isolation, privacy, and great skiing, but they also offer many modern conveniences.

Because “roughing it” is relative, you can enjoy central heat, air conditioning, all the hot water you need, and a grocery delivery service package at many of the Mammoth Lakes rentals. Even better, there’s great shopping nearby for those who prefer some time off the slopes.

Celebrate the Redwoods

The forests around Big Sur, California are an ancient, elegant place to celebrate the beauty of nature. To have an even better experience, consider a trip to the Tree House Cabins in Carmel. Imagine spending your vacation in the fresh air, kissed by dappled sunlight, and enjoying easy access to wi-fi, a fireplace, and a gorgeous outdoor bathtub.

Your trip to the trees will require little of you. You’ll have a comfy bed, fresh linens, and an adorable kitchen where you can prep simple meals. Nearby Carmel will keep you entertained and well-fed, or you can bring in plenty of books and games and simply stay put. The trees are ready when you are!

Desert Glamping

If you love the light and warmth of the desert, consider a trip to the Mojave Desert. Tiny houses, such as the Eco-Pods near Ridgecrest, are a great example of ideal CA glamping. You can expand your campsite by renting a second bedroom to camp with friends and family.

Bring your star charts and enjoy your time in the desert. These clever wooden pods offer a simple, tremendously comfortable stay with little fuss. You’ll even have a little deck where you can set out your telescope!

Get on the Water

If you want to enjoy the climate of Napa Valley, consider a stay on Lake Berryessa. This leak is just 45 minutes from Napa Valley, where you can take the winery train and enjoy several tastings while someone else drives. Uber back to your boat and drift off to sleep listening to the wind, the wildlife, and the water.

Bring your binoculars with you for your houseboat stay on Lake Berryessa. You’ll be able to see deer grazing onshore and wild turkey at the water’s edge. Even better, water birds including loons, heron, and snow geese will make their presence known as the days stretch out.

Tent Camping with Style

Who says you can’t sleep in a bed inside a tent? There are many organizations and campgrounds that will gladly set you up in a grown-up sized tent with a lovely canopy bed and all the amenities.

It’s important to note that many of these campgrounds are near farms and raise animals, food crops, and grapes for wine-making. While you may get to enjoy your isolation on one section of the property, you’ll also get to check out the working aspects of how a winery or a vegetable farm does its job for consumers all over the country. Enjoy your time in your tent, visit a local farmer’s market, and revel in the bounty of the state of California.

Camping doesn’t have to be rough. In fact, your time in a treehouse, an eco-pod, or a safari-style tent can be downright enchanting. If you’re dying for some peace and quiet but don’t have any interest in roughing it, don’t worry. California camping can be very comfortable with the right reservation.
